Each year, Tiger Woods hosts his annual golf tournament, which supports the Tiger Woods Foundation. Northwestern Mutual helped to sponsor the World Challenge tournament last year. This year, however, the financial security company has decided to take charge and become title sponsor.
Why the Tiger Woods Foundation saving money is a good thing
By having Northwestern Mutual sponsor the entire tournament, the Tiger Woods Foundation saves $4 million. As a result, that money can go straight back into the charity. Tiger explains why this event is so important to him and his foundation:
“What’s important is that if it wasn’t for this tournament, we wouldn’t have the success with the foundation. The Learning Center [in nearby Orange County] would not have happened. We wouldn’t have gained the awareness that we have now. There have been so many kids that we have helped just because of this event. It’s important to me, to the foundation. This is what got us on the map.”
In addition, the tournament will be renamed the Northwestern Mutual World Challenge. Because the event benefits the college access programs of the Tiger Woods Foundation, the new sponsor aligns well with the charity’s goals. Conrad York – vice president of marketing at Northwestern Mutual – had a positive statement to add:
“Northwestern Mutual shares a common goal to improve educational success, health and development of children and families so they have bright futures ahead of them.”
